Of the following, which is most commonly associated with gastric MALT lymphoma?

A.Helicobacter pylori

B.Alcohol

C.Smoking

D.Hepatitis B virus

E.Epstein-Barr virus

Correct Answer is A. Lymphoma is the second most common primary cancer of stomach, after adenocarcinomas. Almost all are non-Hodgkin lymphomas and are generally classified as B-cell mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas.  Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection increases the risk for gastric MALT lymphoma. Over 90% of low-grade primary gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT-type) lymphomas are associated with H pylori infection. Patients with primary gastric MALT-lymphoma should be tested for H pylori infection and treated if positive. Successful cure of Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with remission of gastric MALT lymphoma in most patients.
